The School of Professional Studies at Columbia University seeks a part-time lecturer to design and teach a graduate-level leadership course in Global Fieldwork: Resilience Communication , in the school’s Master of Science degree program in Strategic Communication .
This course gives students a chance to explore topics of global importance while gaining competence in cross-cultural communication and collaboration. The centerpiece of the course is a 10-day site visit to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in which students engage with local actors and organizations who are doing strategic communication work at the intersection of community resilience, public health, and governmental communication. Students return to their campus studies with global perspective on the transformative impact of strategic communication across sectors.
Syllabus design must begin in Fall 2025; the course will be delivered in Summer 2026.
Responsibilities
• Work with institutional partners and the Program Curriculum Committee to design a course syllabus grounded in applied communication resilience theory
• Lead the 10-day site visit to Rio de Janeiro in Summer 2026 (expenses paid by Columbia University)
• Deliver lectures and organize class activities
• Evaluate and grade student assignments
• Monitor and address student questions and concerns
• Hold office hours
• Attend program faculty meetings
• Participate in relevant training as recommended by the Deputy Program Director
Qualifications
• Graduate degree, with a preference for Ph.D. in communication, management, or related field
• 5+ years of graduate teaching experience
• Familiarity with a variety of organizational and interpersonal communication theories
• Availability for international travel
Preferred Skills/Experience
• 10+ years of professional experience in strategic communication

• Compensation: Syllabus design - $5,000.00; Course delivery - $11,145.82
