Summary/objective

Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Education, in the Department of Teacher Education, provides the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, advising, professional development, and institutional, committing to retention and recruitment efforts, and community service.

The incumbent will teach a maximum load of four courses each semester with demonstrated expertise and experience in a face-to-face classroom setting and online instruction. Areas of teaching responsibility include, but are not limited to teaching Undergraduate courses in Reading Methods, Diagnostic Reading, Reading Practicum, Dyslexia Intervention, and Classroom Skills for Teachers. Faculty must also hold eight (8) office hours per week to support students effectively.

  1. Teach and Mentor: Develop and deliver high-quality courses in education; advise and mentor diverse student populations.
  2. Research and Scholarship: Conduct original research in education, and related areas, producing peer-reviewed publications and securing external funding.
  3. Program Development: Collaborate with faculty to design and implement innovative curriculum and experiential learning opportunities that reflect contemporary issues in education.
  4. Community Engagement: Partner with community organizations, and stakeholders to address school/university partnerships.
  5. Assessment and Administration: Evaluate student performance, contribute to program accreditation efforts, and participate in department and university governance.
  6. Diversity and Inclusion: Foster an inclusive learning environment that supports the success of historically underrepresented populations.
  7. CAEP Accreditation: Assist the Department in preparation for all site reviews and accreditation initiatives
  8. Other Duties as Assigned: Support the department's evolving needs and strategic goals through collaboration and adaptability.

Required education and experience

Educational Qualifications

  • A Doctorate in Curriculum & Instruction from an accredited institution.
  • Certified to teach in a P-12 setting
  • Reading Specialist Endorsement

Teaching Experience

  • A minimum of three years of successful full-time teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Experience teaching a range of reading method courses, including foundational undergraduate courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach online, hybrid, and in-person courses effectively, incorporating technology and innovative teaching strategies.
  • Experience in-person and online course delivery using multiple learning management systems is required.
  • 3 years of successful teaching in the P-12 setting as demonstrated by evaluations.

Scholarship and Research

  • A strong record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals or equivalent scholarly contributions.
  • Evidence of the ability to integrate research into teaching, involving students in research projects where applicable.
  • Experience or potential to secure external funding to support research or program development.

Student Engagement and Mentorship

  • Experience advising and mentoring students regularly throughout the academic year.
  • Commitment to fostering student success and professional development through advising, research supervision, and career mentoring.
