Field Engineer – Heavy Civil (Entry Level)

Location: Mesa, AZ (Travel to regional jobsites as needed)

Job Summary

The Field Engineer supports on-site construction activities by assisting superintendents and project managers with layout, quantities, document control, and daily problem-solving. You’ll rotate through several facets of a project, survey/GPS, quality control, scheduling, and cost tracking, gaining broad experience that prepares you for rapid advancement within WW Clyde.

Key Responsibilities

  • Verify field quantities, track production, and report daily costs.
  • Assist with plan review, RFI preparation, submittals, and as-built documentation.
  • Support layout crews with survey data, cut-sheet calculations, and GPS model checks.
  • Help maintain the CPM schedule, update three week lookaheads, and note impacts.
  • Coordinate materials testing and quality records with QC/QA staff.
  • Observe work zones to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Prepare pay estimates and assist with change-order pricing.
  • Communicate issues promptly to the project team and participate in problem-resolution meetings.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s in, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: Internship to 2 years of heavy-civil or roadway construction experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of plans, specs, and construction methods; familiarity with surveying/GPS is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; exposure to scheduling or takeoff software a bonus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and willingness to learn.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable record; ability to work outdoors and travel to job sites.
