Position Summary

The Junior Estimator is a full-time position in our office located in Media, PA. The Estimator will be responsible for doing a complete estimate of a project utilizing On-screen Take off and Quick bid. The Estimator will need to analyze requirement documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project. The Estimator will understand various standards and specialty drywall and drywall ceilings Acoustical Ceilings and Specialties, but not limited to.

The Estimator reports directly to the Chief Estimator and VP/GM for all assigned estimating duties. The Estimator is ultimately a member of the Estimating and Sales Team. This position is accountable for the development and submission of detailed and accurate estimates and required deliverables as well as supporting post bid submission customer requirements. This position includes responsibility for communication and reporting and collaboration with the Wallworks Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of estimates for commercial projects.
  • Ability to present estimates to management in the review process.
  • Utilize industry best practices for incorporating direct costs, indirect costs, support cost and overheads into project estimates.
  • Support cost estimating tools and databases to ensure estimates are well documented and updated based on project actuals.
  • Support process improvement program for tools and metrics to measure cost estimate accuracy, man-hour estimates to actuals, speed accuracy and cost to develop estimates, and ensure evolve estimate precision based on historical project estimates vs. actuals.
  • Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service and/or product.
  • Prepare material estimates and cost estimates for the product and/or service.
  • Manage bids from vendors and contractors.
  • Meeting Goals for contracts awarded set by VP/GM
  • Customer Service – Maintaining business relationships with customers
  • Meeting Goals for bid volume and number of bids set by VP/GM

Organization:

  • Enter projects after bid into Bidding Status spread sheet
  • Download Contract Documents from customer websites and organize in e files for Estimators
  • Upload drawings from e files to OST
  • Overlay new drawings over older drawings in OST
  • Enter projects after bid into Bidding Status spread sheet
  • Work with Estimating Admin Assistant to upload project documents to the designated areas
  • Facilitate a scope review with the PM at project hand-off
  • Identify areas of importance of a project and relay to PM after transfer

Qualifications that will make you successful in the role:

  • High School diploma with proven experience, or associated degree with experience.
  • 1-4 Years Experience in Commercial Drywall Construction as a Project Manager OR Estimator
  • On-Screen Takeoff/Quick Bid Proficiency (On Center Software)
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills are a must.
  • Must be able to work individually and as a team player.
  • Experience with On-screen Takeoff / Quick Bid or similar estimating software
  • Familiarity with formal procurement and submittal processes such as RFQ, RFI, RFP.
  • Proficient Computer Skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Some Knowledge of commercial projects
  • Self-motivated attitude, teachable mentality, and coachable spirit

  • Exceeding customer expectations with prompt detailed responses as required when potential bids are being reviewed/descoped.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Consistent execution of policies and procedures through adequate control measures
