Research & Writing Intern (Book Project – Journalism Focus)

Remote or Hybrid | Firm based in Glendale, CA

About the Project

This internship supports the development of a nonfiction book authored by Shan Potts, a nationally recognized immigration attorney and thought leader. The book explores cross cultural dynamics, self improvement, leadership skills,—blending legal insights, real-life case stories, and policy critique into a compelling narrative.

Role Overview

We are seeking a journalism major or recent graduate with strong writing and research skills to join as a Research & Writing Intern . This role is ideal for someone passionate about long-form storytelling, investigative work, and social impact writing. You’ll work closely with the author to shape, refine, and build out the content of a manuscript in progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive research into cultural, and self development, leadership, personal growth, legal, political, and social justice topics
  • Summarize and synthesize source materials into accessible, accurate content
  • Assist in drafting and editing chapters, case studies, and supporting narratives
  • Develop questions and prepare for interviews with stakeholders or case subjects
  • Organize citations and create annotated bibliographies (APA or MLA)
  • Help maintain structure and progress using shared folders and content calendars

Ideal Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Journalism, Writing, Communications, or related field
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Strong research and fact-checking abilities
  • Familiarity with sourcing, attribution, and narrative structure
  • Interest in immigration, law, politics, or human rights is highly preferred
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote environment
  • Experience with interviewing and oral history is a plus
