Job Description

The Oklahoma City Indian Clinic (OKCIC) is a nonprofit corporation that provides culturally sensitive healthcare to the American Indian population. OKCIC services not only include basic medical care, but also dental, optometry, behavioral health services, fitness, nutrition, and other family programs.

Oklahoma City Indian Clinic is hiring a Safety Officer! The Safety Officer ensures effective safety measures are developed, implemented, and maintained to maximize efforts to mitigate patient, visitor, staff, and organizational risk.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Safety Officer for the organization; plan and chair Safety Committee meetings; collaborate with the organization’s infection control professionals on joint matters.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards through administrative controls, engineering controls, and work practice controls; assist in implementing the educational component of the safety program.
  • Conduct quarterly emergency preparedness drills and prepare after-action reports.
  • Investigate incident reports to determine cause leading up to incident or near incident; escalate any urgent findings to Risk Management; submit quarterly statistical reports to Risk Management regarding all incident reports.
  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping and submit reports to the Department of Labor when required
  • Conduct hazard and risk identification assessments by performing routine environment care rounds to review working conditions and potential patient safety concerns; intervene to stop any acts or processes which are unsafe or do not comply with OSHA standards, Life Safety, or AAAHC standards; and implement mitigation strategies to ensure unsafe processes are not repeated.
  • Evaluate and update safety policies, procedures, and emergency preparedness plans annually including Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), as regulations or local ordinances change, and as needed
  • Manage electronic Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files and serve as online SDS vendor site administrator; ensure disposal of substances are managed according to environmental guidelines.
  • Support continuous improvement in workplace safety
  • Serve as site supervisor for contracted security guard staff and act as liaison between security organization and OKCIC; provide oversight on all security matters.

Requirements:

  • Must align with OKCIC vision, mission and core values
  • Bachelor's degree preferred, Associate's required in Occupational Safety or similar field
  • Two (2) years of previous experience in comprehensive occupational safety and health, preferably in the healthcare industry
  • Proficient computer skills, including Google Suite/Workspace and/or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and ordinances on fire safety and prevention, hazardous chemicals, emergency preparedness, and patient safety
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
