Job Description

The Senior SEO Specialist leads the development, execution, and ongoing refinement of strategic SEO initiatives across the agency’s client portfolio. With deep expertise in keyword research, technical SEO, content optimization, and performance analytics, this individual plays a pivotal role in driving organic visibility and results for complex client campaigns.

Senior Specialists are highly proficient in aligning SEO efforts with broader marketing and business goals. They serve as trusted client advisors, provide mentorship within the SEO team, and drive interdepartmental collaboration to ensure SEO best practices are embedded across development, content, and planning functions. This role demands strong leadership, analytical thinking, and adaptability in the face of the ever-changing search landscape.

KEY OUTCOMES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Outcome: Lead the successful delivery of sophisticated SEO campaigns that drive measurable impact for clients and support their long-term growth goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as day-to-day lead on large, multi-faceted SEO campaigns, owning keyword strategy, competitive analysis, content optimization, and technical SEO problem-solving.
  • Conduct advanced site audits to uncover opportunities in architecture, navigation, accessibility, and internal linking.
  • Analyze performance data using analytics platforms to inform strategy, refine tactics, and deliver actionable reports aligned with client KPIs.
  • Consult directly with clients, providing insights, education, and strategic direction related to SEO and listings/review management.
  • Guide the QA process for implementations and ongoing optimizations.

Key Outcome: Develop forward-thinking SEO strategies that evolve with industry trends and drive innovation across client campaigns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic collaboration across SEO, Analytics, Account Services, and Integrated Planning teams to identify and prioritize new growth opportunities.
  • Conduct comprehensive SEO audits and craft detailed strategies, timelines, and roadmaps.
  • Evaluate and recommend SEO platforms, tools, and vendor partners that enhance execution and efficiency.
  • Contribute to scoping and estimating new SEO engagements, ensuring deliverables align with client expectations and resources.
  • Stay on the forefront of algorithm updates, keyword tools, and market trends to guide strategic direction.

Key Outcome: Elevate SEO practice across the agency through collaboration, education, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and enforce SEO best practices, guidelines, and documentation for consistent agency-wide implementation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to internal teams, keeping stakeholders informed of industry developments and evolving SEO practices.
  • Collaborate closely with developers and partners to ensure technical SEO recommendations are executed effectively.
  • Partner with Content teams to align SEO strategy with content creation and UX
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior SEO team members, helping them develop their skills and understanding of organic strategy.
  • Contribute to the agency’s thought leadership through authored content, speaking engagements, or external publications.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Business or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing and leading campaigns in the paid and organic search ecosystem
  • Working knowledge of search engine optimization practices
  • Experience bringing strategic plans to execution
  • Proven track record in operating with a high-level of integrity, commitment, and enthusiasm to take on a challenging role with cross-functional commitments
  • Google Analytics certification required

PREFERRED –

  • Google Ads certification preferred
  • Agency experience

COMPENSATION

Butler/Till is committed to providing pay transparency of our compensation philosophy and ensuring equitable pay practices for our employee owners. The compensation range for this position is $54,000 - $76,000 and represents the annual salary range in Rochester, NY. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience.

This is just one component of Butler/Till’s total compensation package for employee owners. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including ESOP (employee stock ownership plan), an annual bonus, in addition to a full benefits package, and paid time off benefits, including 100% paid parental leave. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
